Texas Swing

One Hundred Ninety-Eight

Artist - Roy Head and the Traits
Album - Treat Me Right
Released - 1965
Label - Scepter Records
Genre - Rockabilly/Rock 'n Roll

Tracks:
Side A
Just A Little Bit
One More Time
Money
Get Back - Instrumental
The Feeling's Gone
Side B
Treat Me Right
Get Back - Vocal
Convicted
Night Train
My Babe

From the small town of San Marcus, Texas on a farm that borders on L.B.J.  Roy burst open the hit charts so quickly that it took just four weeks for a bright-eyed eager Texas boy to become know throughout the country and most of the world.

A surprising pick my my roommate, upon playing this album, I felt like I wanted to listen to something with a little swing and this record hit the spot.  Listening and dancing to music are two things that I love, but when you know that something is so genuine as a little Texas swing, it makes you feel good about where music comes from.  Roy Head, a Texas native, is from a little town of San Marcus, which is about 20 minutes-ish from Austin.  Exploring music from a state that I currently reside in makes me appreciate how so many different genres and talents exist in the world.  From the 60's to today!

Enjoy!!

Taking It Down a Notch

One Hundred Ninety

Artist - Perry Como (with The Anita Kerr Quartet)
Album - The Scene Changes
Released - 1965
Label - RCA
Genre - Easy Listening/Adult Contemporary/Vocal

Tracks:
Side 1
Where Does a Little Tear Come From?
Funny How Time Slips Away
Here Comes My Baby
Sweet Adorable You
I Really Don't Want to Know
That Ain't All
Side 2
Dream On Little Dreamer
Stand Beside Me
A Hatchet, a Hammer, a Bucket of Nails
Gringo's Guitar
My Own Peculiar Way
Give Myself a Party

The 12th album by Perry Como, I decided to change things up here with The Scene Changes.  This album is a little bit Country, so I'm guessing that is why on the back of the cover it says Perry Goes to Nashville.  From what the back states, it says that Perry spent about a week in Nashville, sort of basking in the Nashville Sound. Chet Atkins, director of RCA Victor's Nashville Studios produced Como's album, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with the direction of this record.  A very mellow and unique sound, I enjoy listening to Perry Como from time to time, so why not enjoy it on a day like today and share with you all.

Enjoy!

Lightening up the Mood

There is always that perfect record that will lighten your mood and today, for my one hundred thirty-third pick, this is just what I needed.

Artist - Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass
Album - Whipped Cream & Other Delights
Released - 1965
Label - A&M
Genre - Jazz, Instrumental

Tracks:
Side One
A Taste of Honey
Green Peppers
Tangerine
Bittersweet Samba
Lemon Tree
Whipped Cream
Side Two
Love Potion NO. 9
El Garbanzo
Ladyfingers
Butterball
Peanuts
Lollipops and Roses

An Instagram friend of mine posted this record and after sifting through his photos, I was reminded that I have that exact same record.  So thanks to him, it is today's pick.  The fourth album by Herb Albert's Tijuana Brass, Whipped Cream & Other Delights is so delightful.  All instrumental jazz, each track is basically telling a story.  Whipped Cream is a song, when you hear it, that sounds like it was an intro to a game show.  Let's not forget to mention the greatest song, Love Potion No. 9.  There is nothing like getting out early from work, especially when it's a long weekend and spinning this record on your record player.  Something about it just lightens the mood and washes all the worry away, at least that's how I feel.

Enjoy!
