Genre - Psychedelic Rock

Tracks:
Side One

Ezy Ryder

Astro Man

Belly Button Window

I was on the hunt for this record because it has the song Angel on it.  Maybe it was in the section where all the other Jimi Hendrix records were and I just missed it, but I found it.  I came home, played it and instantly became happy.  When I brought this home, there was a message on the back, so here it is:

Hello my friend
so happy to see you again
I'm so alone
All by myself
Just couldn't make it.

Have you heard Baby
What the winds blowing down
Have you heard baby
A lot of peoples coming right on down.

Communication is coming on strong
It don't give a damn Baby
If your hair is short or long

I said get out of your grave
Everybody is dancing in the street
Do what you know don't be slow
You gotta practice what you preach
Cause it's time for you and me
come to face reality.

Forget about the past Baby
Things aint what they use to be
Keep on Straight Ahead.

We got to stand side by side
We got to stand together and organize
They say power to the people
that's what they're screamin'
Freedom of the soul
Pass it on, Pass it on to the young and old.

You got to tell the children the truth
they don't need a whole lot of lies
Cause one of these days Baby
They'll be running things.

So when you give them love
You better give it right
Woman-Child-Man and Wife
the best love to have is the Love of Life.

Hello my friend
So good to see you again
Been all by myself
I don't think I can make it alone
Keep Pushing Ahead.

Ears are Free

Three Hundred One

Artist - Tortoise
Album - Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Released - 1996
Label - Thrill Jockey
Genre - Post-Rock

Tracks:
Djed
Glass Museum
A Survey
The Taut and Tame
Dear Grandma and Grandpa
Along the Banks of Rivers

According to [internet] sources, Millions Now Living Will Never Die are one of the albums in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.  Frankly, I can see why.  Discovering this in my roommates collection, which is so easily accessible from my room, I decided to give it a spin because my boyfriend is a big fan of Tortoise.  I was in the process of giving one of my five dogs a haircut and bath when I started this record.  The intro to the first track Djed reeled me in with it's deep bass sounds projecting and vibrating through my speakers.  As you are almost paralyzed listening to this record, I think of all the post-rock bands I have listened to throughout my journey of this blog and I have to say, this record is probably one of my top five.  Something about surprises that surprise me and it's obvious that if I hear a record for the first time and give it a second listed, it will be one of the top twelve records once I am done with this blog.  Needless to say, the dynamics of Tortoise, the sound of this album is worth it.

Holy Hair

One Hundred Ninety-Nine

Artist - Heart
Album - Heart
Released - 1985
Label - Capitol Records
Genre - Pop Rock

Tracks:
If Looks Could Kill
What About Love
Never
These Dreams
The Wolf
All Eyes
Nobody Home
Nothin' At All
What He Don't Know
Shell Shock

Yes, Holy HAIR indeed.  Well we have to think what 1985 looked like and I know it certainly had a lot of Aqua Net hairspray and tight pants. I remember this band, like if it was yesterday, since I basically grew up on MTV and some of these songs on this record were in heavy rotation at that time.  Their ninth record, Heart (self-titled) was probably the record that put them on the map of mainstream rock n' roll.  I wouldn't classify this band as Hard Rock (their look will say differ), but definitely a Pop Rock type style.  What About Love is probably that song that you blast and sing along too.  I know, because as I was listening to this record, I caught myself doing that exact thing.  These Dreams is another song you can do the same too, but all in all, this record is not that bad...for 1985.  I certainly had a blast listening to it and of course it brought me back to my life at the time I started listening to Heart.  Ahhh the memories.

Enjoy!

To Be Honest...

Two Hundred Ninety-Eight

Artist - Elvis Presley

Label - RCA Victor
Genre - Rock & Roll

Tracks:

Tratame Bien (Treat Me Nice)
De Cualquier Manera que Me Quieres (Anyway You Want Me) (That's How I Will Be)
Te Quiero, Te Necesito, Te Amo (I Want You, I Need You, I Love You)

This record is a very interesting one, to say the least.  A friend of mine from back home (South Florida) told me his grandfather gave him this record but he did not know what to do with it so he asked me if I wanted it.  He said it was from Argentina and it's an Elvis Presley record, so I told him to send it on over.  Much to my surprise, when I opened the package, I saw that it was in SPANISH.  I was talking with my co-workers about how excited I was to play this because, I thought, Elvis was going to sing in Spanish.  When I got home, I immediately put on the record and began to laugh.  It was sung in English.  I was only slightly disappointed, but got over it real quick as each track ended and another one started.  What more can you ask for than this rare gem and having Elvis' hits on one record.  I love, love, love this record.  So I thank my friend back in Miami for not only thinking of me because he had a record he did not know what to do with, but for adding to my collection this really great record.

Threshold
Jet Airliner
Winter Time
Swingtown
True Fine Love
Wish Upon A Star
Side Two
Jungle Love
Electro Lux Imbroglio
Sacrifice
The Stake
My Own Space
Babes in the Woods

The more I play these older records, the more surprised I am to see such amazing music in true form.  The Steve Miller Band has been around...well they formed in 1967.  Book of Dreams is their tenth record and after finding this out, I'd like to go out on search for all The Steve Miller Band records. Their sound is so psychedelic and trippy and the vocals are great. The guitar playing on this record, for that time, was so futuristic.  The next time I stop at a record store, which should be fairly soon, I will put out an APB on The Steve Miller Band records.

Tracks:
Space Intro
Fly Like An Eagle
Wild Mountain Honey
Serenade
Dance, Dance, Dance
Mercury Blues
Take The Money And Run
Rock 'N Me

Blue Odyssey
Sweet Maree
The Window

Ahhhh yes, this record has definitely held up my oh so fine attitude for the day.  Nothing like a little Steve Miller Band to lift you into space.  The ninth album by the Steve Miller Band, Fly Like an Eagle is pretty much a national trademark of America.  Fly Like an Eagle was the song for the U.S. Postal Service, so when listening to it, not only does it remind me of that, but it also reminds me of my father who was a postman.  This is a fantastic record and I'm so glad it got played today, out of all days.  As you can see in the photo above, I was trying to mimic the cover.  Of course without the guitar and fine attire worn.

Enjoy!

It's just...

Two Hundred Eighty-Nine

Artist - Fleetwood Mac
Album - Mirage
Released - 1982
Label - Warner Bros.
Genre - Pop/Rock

Tracks:
Love In Store
Can't Go Back
That's Alright
Book of Love
Gypsy
Only Over You
Empire State
Straight Back
Hold Me
Oh Diane
Eyes of the World
Wish You Were Here

The thirteenth studio album by Fleetwood Mac, Mirage has a list of good tracks.  Starting with Love In Store, it brings a nice intro to introducing the other tracks.  Lindsey Buckingham's voice in Can't Go Back is perfect for this song.  All the greatness you can find about this band is placed in this album.  Such amazing tracks like Gypsy and Wish You Were Here.  Just fantastic in every way.

Enjoy!

On The Wire

Two Hundred Eighty-Eight

Artist - Leonard Cohen
Album - Songs From A Room
Released - 1969
Label - Columbia
Genre - Folk

Tracks:
Bird On The Wire
Story of Isaac
A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes
The Partisan
Seems So Long Ago, Nancy
The Old Revolution
The Butcher
You Know Who I Am
Lady Midnight
Tonight Will Be Fine

If you don't know much of Leonard Cohen, then it's not too hard to get involved.  Leonard Cohen is one smooth singing guy and his voice is just as calm as can be.  Songs From A Room is Leonard Cohen's second album, which in 1969 it reached #63 on the US Billboard Charts and #2 on the UK Charts.  I am starting to think I need a little bit more Leonard Cohen in my life to calm me down, bring me back to reality.

Walk This Way

Two Hundred Eighty-Six

Album - Bows + Arrows
Released - 2004
Label - Record Collection
Genre - Indie Rock

Tracks:
What's In It For Me
The Rat
No Christmas While I'm Talking
Little House of Savages
My Old Man
138th Street
The North Pole
Hang On, Siobhan
New Year's Eve
Thinking of A Dream I Had
Bows + Arrows

Probably one of my favorite albums by The Walkmen, Bows + Arrows is their second album.  The cool thing about this and when I started this blog is that I wanted this record and then my roommate reminded me that they are doing a reissue with a red vinyl.  So here it is, Bows + Arrows  on a red vinyl record.  A lot of people don't agree with the vocals of Hamilton, but I think with everything else coming together, he sounds magnificent.  Matt Barrick is amazing on drum on The Rat track and to see him live is almost unbelievable.  He's a ball of energy and kills it on the drums.  Another one of my favorite tracks is New Year's Eve.  In the end, this album is a great one.

Enjoy!
