To a band that I discovered online, spread the word to a friend and a week later we saw them live. Nearly ripping my face off with their enormous sound, And So I Watch You From Afar (ASIWYFA) just released their third album on Sargent House Records. They have a unique post-rock with a little bit of a math rock vibe. I do have to say, after seeing them and buying a shirt, to this day, months later, I still wear that shirt almost every day.

To like is to like and to love is to love. With like, it's something you can tolerate or accept for a brief period of time, but to love is something you are willing to withstand through the test of time. I like a lot of artists and their music, but it takes something special for me to love it and I know that I love Mogwai. I think the more I listen to post-rock, the more I appreciate music without lyrics. Hearing the sounds of the instruments; guitar, drums, bass allows you to make up what you wish to think about at that moment. Mogwai's sixth album, The Hawk is Howling is one of those albums.

A semi-local band, hailing from San Marcos, Texas, is another great post rock band that I've heard as of late. Since my roommate listens to a lot of post rock, he recommended this album. If you have seen the movie Moneyball, The Mighty Rio Grande makes an appearance. This is This Will Destroy You's debut album.

According to [internet] sources, Millions Now Living Will Never Die are one of the albums in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Frankly, I can see why. Discovering this in my roommates collection, which is so easily accessible from my room, I decided to give it a spin because my boyfriend is a big fan of Tortoise. I was in the process of giving one of my five dogs a haircut and bath when I started this record. The intro to the first track Djed reeled me in with it's deep bass sounds projecting and vibrating through my speakers. As you are almost paralyzed listening to this record, I think of all the post-rock bands I have listened to throughout my journey of this blog and I have to say, this record is probably one of my top five. Something about surprises that surprise me and it's obvious that if I hear a record for the first time and give it a second listed, it will be one of the top twelve records once I am done with this blog. Needless to say, the dynamics of Tortoise, the sound of this album is worth it.

This is such a fantastic record and a new listen for me, since I am not caught up on any Caspian records. This is Caspian's second album and I gave this one a double listen, that's how much I liked it. The reason why this entry is out of sync (number-wise) is because I was thinking of something to say that would be more interesting than just liking it, but with the week I am having and work draining all my energy, I forgot about it. My roommate reminded me that I did not post it and when I came on to see why, I remembered. How forgetful have I been these days. I sincerely apologize for not posting a good review on this one. But I promise you this, this will definitely be one I post about after I finish this year long expedition, which is ending in about 3 months. How I will miss this.

I love records that come in different colors. Not only that, EPs are, to me, a shorter, more intense abridged version of what is to come and this EP by Caspian is magnificent. My roommate loves Caspian and I believe this is the first time I've heard them. Let me mention that my boyfriend likes them as well. I would have to listen to more of their stuff to make a determination of how this album proceeds the rest, but for now, I like this.

Let Me Back In
The introduction of Explosions In The Sky's sixth album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care comes to you with a winding type sound that plays well into the rest of the tracks with what is considered to be very comforting. What I love most about Explosions in the Sky (EITS) is that their post rock sound is very warming and inviting. You could introduce this album, as well as their other albums, to someone whose never heard of them and they could instantly be drawn in by the magnitude of what EITS has to offer. It would almost be like love at first listen, especially when you hear the guitar sound against the drums and bass. It is like a magical feeling and I'm happy that a record, let alone a band, gives me the feeling I feel like EITS does. A great band that has so much to offer, one could say that this kind of post rock is best listened to loud.

To think of such a great post rock band without their legendary drummer goes without saying. Jerry Fuchs, a machine in his own right, was such an amazing drummer. Maserati's fourth album, Pyramid Of The Sun was intended to celebrate Jerry's life after his death, since the drums on this album were recorded prior to his death. Maserati is a band from Athens, Georgia and I always feel like some great, underrated bands come from that area. You also have some very famous bands that have come from that area too. Nonetheless, Maserati is one band that I was introduced to late in the game, but never to late to enjoy such great music. R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs!! Till this time next year when we will continue to play the music you have graced us with.

The third album by Austin Rockers Explosion In The Sky, The Earth Is Not a Cold Place is such a beautiful album. As I'm listening to it at this very moment, the sound on each track is just so passionate, so warming that I cannot get enough. This will have to be one of my TOP POST ROCK ALBUMS EVER!! Music like this, what Explosions In The Sky are doing here, is the type of work that changes your life. I know I've mentioned before about how some previous albums I've posted changes my life, but this one in particular is above them all. Not only do you have the music, but look at the title of the album and the name of the tracks. Lovely words written together to think that there are such things as great, life changing things. Better by chance, laying down right now, holding someone's hand and just being happy is what this makes me think of. I can go on and on about the feelings I feel when listening to this record, but I will say this, I AM HAPPY!

The debut album by Scottish band Mogwai, Young Team was released in 1997. When I think about that, the year this album was released, I think about what I was doing that year. Obviously it was not listening to this album, because I think it would've changed my life. This is such a fantastic record that if I listened to it in 1997, I'd probably have a different outlook on a lot of things. Growing up, I was introduced to a variety of music and post rock was not one of them. Music that makes me relax and not think about the obvious is always a score in my book. What I liked most about this album is the flute in Mogwai Fear Satan. Me, being an ex band member and playing the flute makes me appreciate when I hear the flute on tracks. It's almost like a connection I have with the song. Ahhhh, yes, thinking about the younger years. Truth be told, I enjoy my musical knowledge, from the little bit that I know, but I am thankful for that.

The fourth studio album by Japanese post-rock band Mono, You Are There is simply amazing. I had the pleasure of listening to this band last night, FOR FREE, at Mohawk in Austin, Texas and I happened to gain a new friend in the process. That experience for me, hanging out with my friends and listening to such an amazing band was one for the record books. So that being said, since listening to Mono inspires me to write, I share with you special thoughts of mine, because this band, when listening to them, makes me think of happy thoughts.
When the clock strikes the hour, I feel the pain. When I think of you, I often think of rain. The way you held my hand, your soft touch I felt inside, the way you kissed my lips, I knew it was only a matter of time. When I said goodbye at first, I had tears in my eyes. To cross over the states so soon, I would be at home in peace, but obviously without you. Never have I felt this way, I can't believe I rhyme, but the days that I don't think of you, I feel like pouring a glass of wine. Despite the non-communication we seem to share, I don't want to take that extra step to tell you how I feel because I know you are not aware. My life here is great, I really can't complain, but the more I get to know you, I feel like it would be such a strain. Being in the middle has left my feelings mixed, but all I could think about in this very moment is your kiss. Time will tell if it's meant to be, until then I will live my life as me, happy and excited, traveling with joy. To see you again would leave my heart whole, but I know in the end that wouldn't be good, so for now I will stay put and continue to do good. Love is love and what will be will be, I have nothing but respect for you and I hope you can see. One day you will be happy with or without me, never will I regret the time with you that made me happy.
To sum up the words expressed above, they are due to the fact that Mono puts me in that state; a state of relaxation that I could always use from time to time. If you were to know me, know my schedule, I think you would ask how I make it through the day. But I will leave you with this. If you EVER get a chance to see Mono live, I highly recommend it.
Enjoy!
