Holy Hair

One Hundred Ninety-Nine

Artist - Heart
Album - Heart
Released - 1985
Label - Capitol Records
Genre - Pop Rock

Tracks:
If Looks Could Kill
What About Love
Never
These Dreams
The Wolf
All Eyes
Nobody Home
Nothin' At All
What He Don't Know
Shell Shock

Yes, Holy HAIR indeed.  Well we have to think what 1985 looked like and I know it certainly had a lot of Aqua Net hairspray and tight pants. I remember this band, like if it was yesterday, since I basically grew up on MTV and some of these songs on this record were in heavy rotation at that time.  Their ninth record, Heart (self-titled) was probably the record that put them on the map of mainstream rock n' roll.  I wouldn't classify this band as Hard Rock (their look will say differ), but definitely a Pop Rock type style.  What About Love is probably that song that you blast and sing along too.  I know, because as I was listening to this record, I caught myself doing that exact thing.  These Dreams is another song you can do the same too, but all in all, this record is not that bad...for 1985.  I certainly had a blast listening to it and of course it brought me back to my life at the time I started listening to Heart.  Ahhh the memories.

Enjoy!

One Hundred Seventy

Artist - Genesis
Album - Genesis
Released - 1983
Label - Charisma/Atlantic
Genre - Pop Rock

Tracks:
Side One
Mama
That's All
Home By The Sea
Second Home By The Sea
Side Two
Illegal Alien
Taking It All Too Hard
Just A Job To Do
Silver Rainbow
It's Gonna Get Better

The 12th studio album by Genesis and after knowing this, I must immediately look up their discography.  I'm a fan of Genesis, especially since I grew up watching the early (awesome stages) of MTV and seeing their videos on TV, but this is their 12th album.  A must play by my roommate Robbie, this album starts with Mama and I immediately think of a man with mother issues.  You have to bring a little humor to these posts once in a while, just to keep the readers on their toes.  In all seriousness, Genesis has been around since 1967 and have had quite a good track record with each album they put out, even when Phil Collins broke out into his solo career.

**For the simple fear that my computer will shut off when it wants to, I am ending the post right here. **

Enjoy!

Say Anything

For my ninety-first pick I play the one artist that makes me think of boomboxes, trench coats and love.

Artist - Peter Gabriel
Album - So
Released - 1986
Label - Geffen
Genre - Pop Rock

Tracks:
Red Rain
Sledgehammer
Don't Give Up
That Voice Again
In Your Eyes
Mercy Street
Big Time
We Do What We're Told

The fifth studio album by Peter Gabriel, So is the album that put him on top.  Also, let's not forget of a little movie called Say Anything... which John Cusack made the infamous move of standing outside the window of a girl he liked, holding a boombox playing In Your Eyes that made for the perfect scene.  Growing up in the 80's exposed me to such great movies and music.  They don't make them like they used to, but I'm sure everybody says that about their generation.  I'm just glad I'm not growing up now.  Other great songs on this record are Sledgehammer and Big Time.  The eccentric sound that accompanies Peter Gabriel's voice is wonderful.  Definitely a great album of the 80's, hands down!

Enjoy!

At Work

So here is to a confusing day, my eighty-fifth pick.

Artist - Men At Work
Album - Business As Usual
Released - 1981
Label - CBS/Columbia
Genre - New Wave/Pop Rock

Tracks:
Who Can it Be Now?
I Can See it in Your Eyes
Down Under
Underground
Helpless Automaton
People Just Love to Play with Words
Be Good Johnny
Touching the Untouchables
Catch a Star
Down By The Sea

This makes a lot of sense, this post.  Men at Work is from Australia and I almost feel like most bands from Australia in the 80's have an island-ish sound to them.  Yes, this is new wave/pop rock, but in all honesty, it has something that makes it sound that way, at least to me.  Men at Work are most famous for their songs Down Under and Who Can it Be Now?, which to me were songs I grew up with (yes, especially since this song came out in 1981, when I was a child, an infant even).  I love how I display these records from way back then and it triggers so many memories.

Enjoy!

Slow it Down, Slowing it Down

Sometimes you have to have a little FAITH and I do believe my eighty-third pick has exactly that!

Artist - George Michael
Album - Faith
Released - 1987
Label - Columbia, Epic
Genre - Pop, Pop Rock

Tracks:
Side One
Faith
Father Figure
I Want Your Sex
One More Try
Side Two
Hard Day
Hand to Mouth
Looking At Your Hands
Monkey
Kissing A Fool

George Michael's first solo album, Faith is a really interesting record, now that I think about it.  For the most part, when I first heard some of these songs, I danced my little heart out.  I was about seven years old when this album came out and I specifically remember hearing I Want Your Sex and thinking, what does this mean?!?!?  A confused little girl, I simply skipped the chorus and sang the lyrics and dances to the beat.  I guess what's funny to me, hearing it now, 26 years later, I laugh at what it says.  The main song on this record, I would think, would have to be Faith, because it has a pop beat, which typically makes for a good dance record.  On that note, if you didn't know, George Michael was from the pop group Wham! before he went solo.

Enjoy!

Totally 80's

This is one album that I can totally jam to.  A group of four wild girls tearing it up, being like boys and partying hard like they do too.

Debut Album
Released July 1981, Label - I.R.S.

Tracks:

1. How Much More
2. Tonite
3. Lust To Love
4. This Town
5. We Got The Beat
6. Fading Fast
7. Automatic
8. You Can't Walk In Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)
9. Skidmarks On My Heart
10. Can't Stop The World

I like this record because it's performed by females.  In the 80's you had Madonna and some other female artists/groups, but I think this group did a good job at being women in a mans world.  I believe it was on VH-1 that I saw an I love the 80's episode or somehow The Go-Go's came up and they had cameras backstage at one of their shows.  Anyways, they just talked about their behavior at that time.  Good for them though, you know.  Being a woman, I know how hard it is to even be taken seriously without someone wanting something more.

This one goes out to all the powerful ladies in the world.  Do what you want and when you have all the power, you take what you want!!
