I Love You BUT...

One Hundred Seventy-Ninth

Artist - I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness
Album - EP
Released - 2003
Label - Emperor Jones
Genre - Indie Rock

Tracks:
We're Still The Weaker Sex
The Less You See
I Want To Die In The Hot Summer
When You Go Out
Your Worst Is The Best

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness was an Austin band that released this five song EP produced by Britt Daniels of Spoon.  There is a special feeling I feel when I hear this album because of the friendship I had with the guitarist, Ernest Salaz.  A great dude who taught me a lot about music and the Austin life in general.

Enjoy!

A Team of Sound

One Hundred Sixty-One

Artist - Sound Team
Album - Work EP
Released - 2005
Label - Capitol Records
Genre - Indie Rock

Tracks:
The Fastest Man Alive
It's Obvious What's Happening Here
Orange Bird
In The Dark No One Can Hear You Sweat
Don't Turn Away

I wish I lived in Austin, Texas when this band was still together.  Now I have the remnants of what used to be, which is now TV Torso.  We are here to talk about Sound Team, which a six man band who had a lifespan of 7 years, but their sound definitely lives on.  A band with an amazing drummer (yes, I am a lover of Jordan Johns), Work EP has one of my favorite songs on it, The Fastest Man Alive.   After the release of Work EP, they released a few more albums and even two on cassettes.  I absolutely love that about bands.  On another note, as I was listening to this, I was overly excited with The Fastest Man Alive and Don't Turn Away.  It's something about Matt Oliver's voice that and also his hair, though you can't really tell unless you see it in person.  He is a tall, slender man with the curliest hair.  Ahhh, I love that.  But yes, this record is great, one to definitely appreciate.

Enjoy!

One Hundred Fifty-Fifth

Artist - The Human League
Album - Fascination! (EP)
Released - 1981
Label - Virgin Records
Genre - Electronic Pop/Synth Pop/Electro Pop

Tracks:
Side One
(Keep Feeling) Fascination - Extended
Mirror Man
Hard Times
Side Two
I Love You Too Much
You Remind Me of Gold
(Keep Feeling) Fascination - Improvisation

So it wasn't too long ago where I had (Keep Feeling) Fascination in my head.  I guess it's because every time I go to the record store, I see the album.  Luckily, the EP was in my collection so here it is.  I would've posted it it yesterday as a double post, but I had no energy to even think with the sinus issues I have been having.

Enjoy!

Sitting....Waiting

One Hundred Forty-Eighth

Artist - Fugazi
Album - 7 Songs/EP
Released - 1988
Label - Dischord
Genre - Post-Hardcore

Tracks:
Waiting Room
Bulldog Front
Bad Mouth
Burning
Give Me The Cure
Suggestion
Glue Man

Such an amazing record, a great find and I'm happy that I decided to look in the punk section of the record store.  I almost feel like this album was CALLING ME or maybe it caught my eye when I was looking for Husker Du. The debut record by Fugazi is so awesome it has two names.  Well you can either call it the EP, which it obviously is or some call it 7 songs.  Maybe because there are only seven songs on the album.  Regardless of whatever they call it, it's a great record and I think this album is a cult classic so to speak.  Waiting Room is on of my favorites, which I'm sure its a lot of peoples favorite, but another song I also like on this record is Suggestion.  I do adore music old and new, but this one is a MUST HAVE!!

Enjoy!

Extended Play

A unique band, a band a friend recommended and a band that I've grown to love.  My eighty-ninth pick.

Artist - The Budos Band
Album - The Budos Band EP
Released - 2009
Label - Daptone Records
Genre - Afro-Beat, Funk, Jazz

Tracks:
Side One
Hidden Hand
Mas O Menos
The Proposition
Side Two
Ephra
Nobody's Bulletproof
Smoke Gets In...

This multi-membered band from Staten Island, New York brings such an amazing beat and feel that one can only categorize them as a great instrumental band.  This EP was recorded between their first and second album, with a track listing of six songs that deliver a great composition of instruments and rhythm like no other.  It amazes me that bands of this nature are around, I mean music in general is interesting in it's own right, but a band such as this, it's breath-taking (to me)!  I thank my friend for introducing me to this band and to many artists he also recommended.  I think that someone should definitely keep an open mind to music, whether they like it or not, but just take it in and think about the process of how a band becomes a band.  Then you can figure out if you like it or not.  I do like the Budos Band, for sure.

Enjoy!

Between Love and Lust is Reality

There is not much I can say without stating the obvious.  I LOVE ATMOSPHERE and throughout this year long trek, they will be displayed a few times.  So for my forty-eighth pick:

Artist - Atmosphere
Album - Sad Clown Bad Spring #12
Released - 2008
Label - Rhymesayers Entertainment
Genre - Hip Hop

Tracks:
Less One
Good Daddy
Carry Me Home
Happymess
Not Another Day

I did not want to cheat the list or anything like that, but I could not decide on what to display today.  After a productive workday and then my run, I kept thinking about what I felt like listening to.  Initially I wanted to listen to something smooth and soft until I figured it out, you know, like a light bulb going off over you head.  Then it hit me, I could definitely use some Atmosphere in my life right about now and then I remembered I got the Sad Clown Bad Spring #12 EP.  For the most part I wanted to just display LPs on this blog, but I thought, what they hey...it's my blog, I can do what I want.  But if it makes you feel better, it is the same size as a regular LP.  That has to count for something, right?

Atmosphere is one of the many bands who I favor the most out of everything that I know.  I know music, so with that statement alone, it's saying a lot.  My first post, number one, my first, was Atmosphere's God Loves Ugly, which is my #2 of my top 10 albums of all time.  If you want to know my history with Atmosphere, read the first post because I'm not ready to repeat myself, but I do admire and absolutely love Happymess.  I think this album came at a right time for me in my life, since I was going through so much emotionally and physically taking care of my father.  Not once did I ever regret any decision I ever made, but listening to Happymess, Less One and Not Another Day really helped me get through a lot, not to mention other Atmosphere songs.  I just feel that music is such an escape from reality, even if it's just for a little bit.  I think that is why, for the most part, I'm a pretty positive, optimistic and outgoing person.  Life is to short, but with just a little music, it makes it that much better.

Enjoy!
