Known as a major figure in Jazz, this great composer (who wrote over 1,000 compositions) had a career that spanned more than 50 years. If you are not familiar with his wonderful work, I suggest you do as soon as possible, because not only does he make excellent music, but the flow of the instruments together in each song projects a great sound. Duke Ellington's music consists of piano (since he was a pianist), but the sounds of trumpets, violins, bass, clarinets (big band) and more tune each song to perfection.
The comforting sound of Caravan, which is a favorite of mine, is one of those songs that is light but will still make you want to move, maybe even dance! The clarinet is the main instrument in this song, accompanied with the piano, which is played in a seductive way. Another great song on this album is Satin Doll, with its lively piano playing, jumping sound of the bass and the melody of the trumpet and trombone. All in all, this album is delicate, yet well respected.
Enjoy!
